The current market for biomass fired stoves and boilers in Ireland is in its infancy stages, with obsolete technology still being used, and a large growth perspective for modern combustion technologies driven by the increasing prices for fossil fuels and national sustainability requirements. Recently, a number of fatalities occurred due to inappropriate installations.

This workshop highlighted the current challenges in Ireland in implementing appropriate combustion technologies and system installations and how these can be addressed by the workshop participants (equipment suppliers, policy makers and others). The presentations contain new information about the status of the technologies used, upcoming EU legislation on product requirements and the relevance of health and safety related issues.
