Roberta Roberto graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 at the Politecnico di Torino and at the University of Illinois at Chicago and received a PhD in Energetics in 2004 from the Politecnico di Torino. She works at ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) since 2003.
After working on numerical models and CFD analyses applied to cavitation phenomena and combustion systems, Roberta Roberto started research activities on biomass combustion, biomass-to-energy pathways, energy conversion systems, energy planning methodologies and local energy balances. She has been in charge of project management in the context of national and international projects and managed a team of people as head of Biomass and Energy Systems Laboratory at ENEA UTTS Unit in 2014 and 2015.
Roberta Roberto participates in working groups to support technical standard and legislation activities in environmental and energy matters concerning energy production, e.g. as ENEA delegate in CTI (Comitato Termotecnico Italiano -Italian Technical Committee) Working Groups and as Italian delegate in CEN (European Committee for Standardization) for TC57 WG1.
In the last 10 years of working in the field of energy and bio-energy pathways, Roberta Roberto has grown professionally from having a strict engineering approach to the topics to being able to utilize her technical knowledge in the context of a broader perspective which accounts also for the economic, environmental, social and political aspects of the matter. In addition to the involvement in activities on bio-energy pathways, now she is deeply involved in writing and coordinating research project proposals at EU level and participates to numerous technical committees as ENEA representative, among the others to EERA (European Energy Research Alliance) Sub Programme on Stationary Bioenergy.
